Join us for a leisurely two-hour walk around the capital of Flemish Brabant and home to KU Leuven, the largest and one of the oldest universities in the low countries.
Our guide is Anne Brugmans, who comes highly recommended by Jenny H, Area 2 Coordinator and host for this event. “You will learn masses about this beautiful city – known as the “best city in Brabant”!”
For a first introduction to Leuven, this is the ideal walk. Discover well-known monuments and attractions such as the Grote Markt (Grand Place) with its Town Hall, one of the most stunning Gothic buildings in the world. We will also see St. Peter’s Church, the University Hall and the pubs lining the Old Market.
But we will also stroll through small streets and alleys, parks and courtyard gardens and hear stories and anecdotes about the famous — and less famous people — who have left their mark on this town.
Practical details:
Meet up at 09:45 for a 10:00 start at the Stadhuis (Town Hall) located on the Grote Markt (Grand Place) in Leuven.
Wear comfortable walking shoes.
After the tour, you are welcome to have lunch at your leisure at one of the many restaurants in town.
By train: take the train to Leuven (https://www.belgiantrain.be/en) and then either walk 15 minutes up the Bondgenotenlaan to the Grote Markt (Grand Place) or take any of the following buses from the train station to Rector De Somerplein (you’ll see the Cathedral and Townhall right away): 2, 3, 317, 352, 358 or 370. By car: park in the Ladeuze underground parking at Monseigneur Ladeuzeplain 20, 3000 Leuven, only a 5-minute walk to the Grote Markt.
